Adulthood’s Overrated

remember knowledge we held back then
i’m thinking we’ve grown to be stupid
our days and nights never seemed to end
we never knew time would touch us
uninhibited, unchecked, forgiving
how did we let the world in
lose our flexible passion
traded priceless simplicity
let others tell us to be responsible
are we mature, grown ups now, sensible
fighting, hurting, demanding more
tore us apart over things insignificant
keep this ‘adequate adulthood’
i find it disturbing, tiresome
we get one chance at life
so i’m headed back to laughter
realizing i can balance growing
while still keeping free moments
