Defeated

Everyone buys into this facade.
When it’s you I wish to fool.
Only you can see through me.
Underneath my laughter,
where my soul is gray and
my shadow hangs it’s head,
defeated.

  1. I like it Donetta. You have such a way with setting the mood.

  2. This is beautiful. It is sad in a way, but I still see it as hopeful. That one person could see beyond the facade is actually a good thing.

  3. I really like this….well done.

  4. I hope you find that one who can truly see you.

  5. I'm always worried about the people who can see underneath.

  6. There's always that one person that it never works on…but that is what makes the person special.

    Thank you for linking up!

  7. Your reaction is very appropriate. Thank you for sharing. I am 36 now. Perhaps there is hope. 🙂 I'm glad you met someone whom completes you. Very hard to find indeed.

  8. Since you wrote with such a serious tone, I am not sure if my reaction is appropriate but, I spent the better part of my life looking for that one person who could see through my facade, deep beyond the pale, to the core of who I was. I always felt incomplete until I met my wife when I was 36. Now my soul soars. I leave you with a wish for colourful innards. 🙂

  9. Donetta, sorry if this is a repeat comment (I don't think my first attempt went through).

“Underneath my laughter, where my soul is gray…” is a lovely phrase. I like that the voice was speaking directly to another person. Gives it more intimacy. Well done! :))
