Life’s Games

Appearance and first impressions
always played in her favor
years ago when her olive skin,
 tanned legs, and easy smile
made men and women drool.
Staring into the mirror,
all traces of that hip girl
had disappeared.
Replaced with wrinkles,
leathery skin, hollow eyes,
permanent frown.
Life played cruel games.
She’d lost.
